About
Our environmental policy
We are currently looking at all aspects of our environmental policy and environmental impact.
We are signed up to Manchester City Council’s Environmental Business Pledge Scheme, and we have achieved a Silver Award in recognition of the measures we have taken to reduce our environmental footprint. We now plan to work with the Groundwork trust to achieve Gold Award status.
All our staff get copies of our environmental policy when they join us.
We have updated the heating control systems in our main building with the help of an interest free loan from the Carbon Trust and are currently working with the Carbon Trust again on a similar project to replace our heating boilers (which are more than 20 years old) with new condenser boilers. The combination of these two things should reduce our gas consumption by 20%.
We are gradually replacing all old light fittings in our buildings with fittings that will take energy efficient bulbs. We have replaced the emergency light system throughout the ground floor of the Main Building to a stand alone system which will only trigger when the fire alarm is activated (as opposed to remaining on at all times) and we plan to extend this work throughout the building as and when funds are available.
We monitor our usage of electricity, gas and water on a monthly basis and have taken steps over the past two years to reduce consumption of all utilities.
Our current carbon footprint is 41.86 t CO
