Manchester Based Organisations

Contact Theatre: Contact is a young people’s theatre, where you can grow, learn and make decisions as a young artist, audience member, organiser or leader.

Zion Centre: Zion Arts Centre is dedicated to inspiring creativity in young people, with activities including after-schools workshops in dance, drama, music and radio production.

M3 Project: Based in Rusholme, this project gives young people the opportunity to take part in a variety of creative projects. (link coming soon)

Manchester Art Gallery Creative Consultants: The Creative Consultants are a group of young people aged between 15 and 19 who meet regularly at Manchester Art Gallery to explore the collections and interpret artworks for their peers.

WFA: WFA specialise in filmmaking. They run projects for people of all ages, including young people.

BBC Blast: BBC Blast offers young people between 13 and 19 years old the opportunity to take part in free creative workshops.

GMMAZ: GMMAZ designs and delivers music projects for young people.

Band on the Wall: Band on the Wall offer musical activities for everyone that include and value all participants regardless of age, experience and ability.

Unity Radio: Unity Radio is the most diverse underground music collective in Manchester. They find the best music in Manchester and provide a Local, National and International platform, to broadcast raw talent to the World.

Breaking Cycles: Breaking Cycles combines physical theatre, music and text creating raw and dynamic performances.

Community Arts North West: CAN gives a voice to the complex and diverse communities that make up Greater Manchester.

Manchester International Arts: Manchester International Arts present diverse and vibrant events in Greater Manchester – mostly outdoors and for free.

x.trax: Experts in presenting dynamic live performances outdoors.

Urban Alternatives: Urban Alternatives is for everyone who loves the alternative scene and wants it to be as good as it can be!

Festivals

exposures New Talent In Moving Image Festival: The UK’s largest festival of student moving image work, which takes place every year in Manchester.

underexposed: The 18 and under category of exposures.

AND Festival: Abandon Normal Devices festival focuses on new cinema and digital culture. It’s delivered in partnership with folly, Cornerhouse and FACT.

NOISE Festival: Aimed at young people, NOISE isn’t your typical arts festival. It has no physical location; the central hub of activity takes place on the NOISE website and across the media – print, television, radio and online – making it the first ‘virtual’ festival of its kind in Europe.

Manchester International Festival: Manchester International Festival is the world’s first festival of original, new work and special events and takes place biennially, in Manchester, UK.

Manchester Literature Festival: Manchester Literature Festival provides unique and imaginative opportunities for audiences to experience high quality live literature through an annual festival.

Manchester Comedy Festival: If you like comedy, then you’ll love this!

Manchester Science Festival: Manchester Science Festival takes place each October, giving you the chance to explore, discover and enjoy over 150 science events taking place at venues across Greater Manchester.

Careers and Networks

Connexions: Connexions is the careers and advice service for young people aged 13 – 19.

artsjobsonline: One of the leading sources of arts vacancies in the UK.

BBC: The BBC offers work placements to young people. It’s a tough competitive process but worth going for if you’re serious about getting into the industry.

ITV: New for 2010 is an exciting work experience opportunity for 14– 17 year olds. Check out the link for more info.

4 Talent: 4 Talent is all about supporting young people to build great futures in the media industry.

Northern Film Network: A social network where filmmakers come together to share information, advertise opportunities and discuss all things film.
