Where does LiveWire take place?
LiveWire takes place at Cornerhouse in Manchester. Cornerhouse is located next to Oxford Rd train station.

What is Cornerhouse?
Cornerhouse is Manchester’s international centre for contemporary visual arts and film. It has three cinemas, three galleries, a bookshop, education spaces (including an Apple Mac suite) and a cafe bar. The exhibitions and films shown are exciting contemporary pieces from independent artists and filmmakers from all over the world.

Who visits Cornerhouse?
Everyone! Cornerhouse attracts a wide audience including lots of young people and students. If you’ve not been before just come and explore the building – try a new film, have a drink in the café or head upstairs to see our latest exhibition.

What kind of projects does LiveWire run?
All kinds of projects have taken place as part of LiveWire. Each LiveWire project is different and is managed by young people. Projects range from sound recording to animation and are loosely fitted into film, art and multi-technology categories.

Previous work is listed in our Past Projects section so have a look.

How long are the projects?
Projects are all very different and can range from one day courses within a school or college holiday to projects that run once a week on a week night and go on for a couple of months.

When are the projects?
LiveWire projects run throughout the year. Sign up to receive info on up and coming projects and check the home page too.

How much does it cost?
Nothing. LiveWire projects are completely FREE. Though if you’re visiting our cinema in your own time, you will have to pay. Don’t forget 14 – 17 year olds can sign up for free Young People’s Membership entitling you to £3 cinema tickets at Cornerhouse on any day, at any time. You do not have to be a member to take part in LiveWIre projects.

Is LiveWire like going to school or college?
No, it’s all about taking part in something that you enjoy and the Workshop Leaders run the projects in a fun and informal way. We want you to come along to have fun and explore your creative side.

Click here to sign up to the free mailing list which will keep you up to date on future projects and events.

How do I get involved?
If you sign up you will be sent information on each project with instructions on how to book a place on the project. You can also email us with specific enquiries.

What kind of multi-technology projects can I get involved with?
We have run a number of different multi-technology projects from web design to touch screen creation workshops.

Do I need to be familiar with certain computer systems or software?
No, unless you are taking part in a project that requires previous experience. We’ll tell you if  you need any previous skills.

Who runs LiveWire?
A group of young people manage LiveWire alongside Cornerhouse staff. The group meets when necessary to plan events and projects and work on developing LiveWire.

How can I become involved with the running of LiveWire?
Sign up or send us an email at livewire@cornerhouse.org. No experience is necessary just enthusiasm and commitment.

Why is the Young Membership Scheme only for 14 – 17 year olds and not 14 – 19 year olds?
We’re always trying to make Cornerhouse more accessible to young people so we introduced the free Young Membership Scheme for people who would not normally be able to benefit from concessionary rates in our cinema. If you’re 18+ and you have an NUS card, you can benefit from reduced student cinema tickets at any time. Everyone’s a winner.

How do I get work experience at Cornerhouse?
We receive a large number of applications from young people wanting to gain work experience at Cornerhouse. Young people will only be considered for this if they are an active member of LiveWire and any decisions relating to work placements will be made at the discretion of the Young People’s Programme Manager. Cornerhouse can only offer office based placements so if you’re after something more practical, get yourself on the mailing list and take part in our creative projects.
