The Text Best Thing: Panel Discussion
Kick-starting the two-day festival with an exploration of the promises and pitfalls of literary adaptation, and a chance to get advice on getting your project off the ground when all the usual funding streams have dried up.
Showreel 1: Version Verse
Showcasing the best of Comma’s poetry films to date, plus the 2009 challenge films. Includes award-winning shorts, and new work, complete with poetry. Presented with a live reading by featured poet Gaia Holmes.
Showreel 2: The Stories So Far…
This screening features six recent short story adaptations commissioned by Comma Film, plus the Film4 funded Five Miles Out. Followed by a Q&A with Andrew Haigh & Tristan Goligher director and producer of Five Miles Out.
How To Write A Successful Adaptation
This talk will explore the structures and devices that short films demand of their stories, and highlights the essential changes that adaptations demand. Led by leading producer and script developer Paul Welsh.
Masterclass with Frank Cottrell Boyce
A one-off masterclass with Frank Cottrell Boyce, one of the UK’s most prolific screen writers for film and television. Exploring cinema’s long standing relationship with the short story, and the differences between writing for the screen and the page.

Version is not just a showcase but a unique film production project, and this year’s festival climaxes with the premiere of four new films specially produced for the occasion.
