Part of The Gospel of Us – The Passion of Port Talbot

We are pleased to welcome Gospel of Us director Dave McKean for a post-screening Q&A following the New British Cinema Quarterly screening on Wed 25 April, chaired by Cornerhouse Film Programme Manager Rachel Hayward.

Dave McKean is an award-winning comic and children’s book illustrator, with a varied career in artwork design for artists such as Tori Amos, Counting Crows and Alice Cooper and advertising campaigns for Nike and Smirnoff. After 10 years of creating still imagery, comics and illustration, McKean moved into short filmmaking with N[eon] (2002), which won the Grand Prix in the Digital Competition division of the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival. He became involved in his first feature film, the live-action/CG animated MirrorMask (2005), upon the request of The Henson Company. Together they created the story at the Henson family home in London, surrounded by Jim Henson’s memorabilia and artifacts. McKean has since directed Luna (2011) before moving onto The Gospel of Us starring Michael Sheen – an interpretation of The Passion story set in contemporary town Port Talbot.
