George Clooney returns to the director’s chair and to the murky world of US politics for his highly anticipated and astute feature, The Ides of March. Set in the not-too-distant future, Ryan Gosling stars, amongst a stellar cast, as Stephen Meyers - an ambitious young press secretary whose work with a prominent Ohio governor in the run up to the presidential elections. However, Stephen soon finds himself unwittingly embroiled in governmental corruption and scandal which threatens to thwart his candidate’s shot at the White House.

Stephen firmly believes that he can make a positive change to the entrenched corruption of his political world, but his dreams soon begin to crumble in the face of lies, betrayal and revenge, testing his integrity and loyalty to his team. A superbly written and suspenseful behind-the-scenes political drama with a slick and confident directorial style from Clooney.

REVIEWS

The Ides of March is a pulse-racing thriller that hits where it hurts. [...] Clooney's exceptional performance is a mesmerizing study in treachery, sweetly done. All the actors deserve high praise. Hoffman and Giamatti remind you of just how good they are, digging into the script's choicest dialogue.

Rolling Stone

There's a curiously old-fashioned air to George Clooney's latest feature [..] Extremely well-crafted and acted [...] the screenplay, by Clooney and his regular collaborator, Grant Heslov, makes some trenchant points about the ambiguous relationship between politicians and the press – a relationship that oscillates between sycophancy and hostility. It is also funny and observant about the circus-like aspect of a US presidential campaign.

The Independent

The Ides of March is tense and involving [...] This handsome, solid campaign thriller paints its primary colours in darkening shades of grey.
