FILM
Mulholland Drive
15- David Lynch
- 148 mins
Synopsis
Lynch originally wrote and directed this ‘outlandish noir’ as a pilot for a TV series. When it was rejected, the director took back the footage and re-worked it into what many describe as his best film since BLUE VELVET. The synopsis provided by the director describes the film: “Part one: She found herself inside the perfect mystery. Part two: a sad illusion. Part three: love” It’s a who’s dreaming who Möbius strip of double identities, sublimated desires, and skewed Hollywood satire, with a pair of actresses – blonde and brunette – at its core. Lynch has managed to reveal L.A. anew whilst linking it to its iconic past, and laced his film withreferences to a slew of classic thrillers. ‘Thrilling and ludicrous’, this is a return to form for its iconoclastic director.”Mulholland Drive is a very long road that leads to everywhere and nowhere at the same time. There’s twists and hairpin turns; one minute you’re looking at a gorgeous view, and the next minute it’s really dark and bleak.” Naomi Watts (actress)
