Showing as part of That’s a Wrap

Funny, heart-rending, poetic and exhilaratingly inventive, Jean Vigo’s only full-length feature is widely regarded as one of the greatest films ever made. When Juliette marries and moves in with barge captain Jean, their relationship soon shows signs of strain. To this simple love story, Vigo brings an extraordinary array of ideas and insights, while injections of surrealism locate the film in a fertile territory between realism and fantasy. A truly timeless masterpiece of French cinema.

Selected for That’s a Wrap by Jillian Blackshaw:

It was one of the first films that I saw at Cornerhouse and was a magical matinee showing. It was a time for falling in love. I fell in love with the film, the boy that took me to see it and with Cornerhouse. For me it became for me a cinema of freedom and of a window to a wider world. Now the boy has gone and the cinema is going too but L’Atalante with its scratchy, basic and beautiful story telling will always be there.
Thank you for all the experiences I’ve had through my life at Cornerhouse.
