El Premio is a beautifully shot directorial debut from Mexico-based Argentinean Paula Markovitch, co-writer of ¡Viva! 2005’s Temporada de patos (Duck Season). Markovitch draws on her own experiences to create a beautifully nuanced autobiographical film.
Fearing the oppressive government forces in 1970s Argentina, seven-year-old Ceci and her mother move to a new town where no one knows them. Life in their isolated, ramshackle hut on the windswept Argentine coast is difficult for spirited young Ceci and she struggles with family secrets that she doesn’t fully comprehend.
Winner of the Nuremberg International Human Rights Film Award, and Jerusalem Film Festival In Spirit for Freedom Award.
