A Dangerous Method
15- David Cronenberg
- 99 mins
The eminently talented Michael Fassbender plays Carl Jung to Viggo Mortensen’s Sigmund Freud in this stylish and sensual film which explores the relationship between the two psychiatrists. Set between 1904 – 1913, A Dangerous Method accounts the strained and often stormy friendship between the Jung and Freud, which becomes even more problematic when Sabina Spielrein, a charismatic yet deeply troubled woman, comes between them and the boundaries between doctor and patient collapse. An absorbing drama from the revered Canadian director David Cronenberg (Crash and A History of Violence), full of masterful performances from the superb ensemble cast.

REVIEWS
It seems strait-laced and conventional by comparison with David Cronenberg's earlier movies – a handsomely shot costume drama set in Zurich and Vienna on the eve of the First World War. However, scrape a little beneath the surface and you quickly realise that the Canadian is back exploring very familiar themes – hysteria, disgust, sexual and professional jealousy. For all its formal restraint, the film is just as subversive and as disquieting as predecessors such as Crash and The Naked Lunch. 4/5
The Independent
A subtle and intellectually thrilling true story.
