Zhang Yimou’s Wo de fu qin mu qin (The Road Home) will be used as a catalyst for GCSE language exercises and discussion. With an introduction to the film, director and its context within contemporary Chinese cinema, learners will have the opportunity to explore topics such as daily routine, personal relationships, village life, customs and traditions, and the Cultural Revolution. After the screening, students will be encouraged to describe the scenes, develop the story or create alternative endings through simple language exercises.
