Personal Structures is an international project initiated by René Reitmeyer that aims to bring together artists from different parts of the world through a series of publications and exhibitions. It rests on the observation that an informal kind of abstraction, usually rooted in an experimental working practice, characterises the work of many young artists. Bringing these artists together through publications and exhibitions will serve both to recognise their similarities and to demonstrate their differences and peculiarities. This publication accompanies the first show of Personal Structures at the Galerie Krijger and Katwijk, Amsterdam and features 16 artists from 11 countries on 3 continents, both men and women with ages ranging from late 20s to early 50s. These facts alone make clear that this project is not concerned with rigid delineation, but aims at openness and exchange. Dutch and German editions also available.
