Concrete is a challenging material: stoniness, coarseness, massiveness and harshness are all characteristic features of it. A skilful architect can, like a sculptor, find also the delicate sides to the cast material – its plasticity, free form, graphicness and even smooth, shiny surfaces.
Architectural photographer Jussi Tiainen has deftly captured the versatile nature of concrete. All the photographs for this book depict recent high-quality concrete architecture – all of them significant works by Finnish architects.
