Martin Boyce wins the 2011 Turner Prize

On Monday night Martin Boyce was announced as the winner of this year’s coveted Turner Prize.
Boyce has certainly come a long way from his art school days in Glasgow. His artistic stature ensures him a strong place within the cannon of modern Scottish artists – a rather illustrious dynasty.
The Turner Prize judging panel, which included Baltic director Godfrey Worsdale; Penelope Curtis, director of Tate Britain; and Katrina Brown, director of The Common Guild in Glasgow, said Boyce’s show at BALTIC ‘confirmed the consistency of his work while opening up a new sense of poetry’.
£25,000 richer and arguably at the peak of his career, its so surprise that Martin Boyce is currently a big buzz-name in the contemporary art world, and might well continue to be for some time.
