Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of work do you show?

Cornerhouse has no permanent collection but shows a diverse programme of temporary exhibitions throughout the year. Work shown ranges from group shows from international artists, to solo shows from established regional artists.

We also show work of young and emerging artist in the café and bar area. Exhibitions are accompanied by a range of related events and activities, including artist talks, courses on contemporary art and much more.

How do I get my work shown in Cornerhouse galleries?

At present we are only accepting submissions for Cornerhouse Projects but hope to announce new opportunities for our main Gallery spaces next year.

We have now renewed our call for submissions to Cornerhouse Projects – our regular exhibition strand dedicated to North West based artists, on show in our Café and Bar. We are seeking proposals from artists, curators and other creative individuals and groups, who wish to present new or existing work. We are especially interested in ideas that engage with context, our audiences and our position as a social hub in one of the busiest parts of the city. To submit a proposal, please send the following as part of your submission to, Tomas Harold, Exhibitions Coordinator, via email tomas.harold@cornerhouse.org:

• Current CV.

• Short artist’s statement / proposal (Maximum 1 side of A4).

• Maximum 10 images (300dpi+ format jpg or pdf).

Where do I find information on past shows/particular artists etc?

Just click on "Archive" in the Art section and you can browse by year, title, artist etc...

Do I have to pay to visit the exhibition?

No, entry to the gallery is free. Events and talks are also free whenever this is possible, but sometimes have a minimal charge. All talks and events are ticketed so you need to phone the box office to guarantee your place.

When are you open?

Mon: Closed
Tue - Sat: 12:00 noon - 20:00
Sun: 12:00 noon - 18:00

Is it possible to hire the gallery space?

It is possible at certain times to hire the gallery space for events outside gallery opening hours. This depends on the exhibition being shown at the time. For more information contact Pat Raikes, Operations Director at pat.raikes@cornerhouse.org

Can I get a guided tour of the exhibition?

There are normally two informal guided tours lasting less than an hour to accompany each exhibition. You can find the exact date for each exhibition under our event listings on our website, or call 0161 228 7621 for event information. It is recommended that you book in advance and tickets can be reserved for free tours in advance.

Groups of six or more can request their own tour of an exhibition, but please call to discuss this with Emma Leather, Engagement Manager on 0161 200 1545 or email: engagement@cornerhouse.org

Do I need to book in advance to bring a school or college group?

It is helpful if we know at least a week in advance if you intend to bring a large group to our galleries. This will allow us to tell you any information that might be relevant to your groups’ visit, let you know about any programmed activities that might be appropriate and, if possible, allow us to offer you a brief informal tour.

To confirm your visit, please contact Emma Leather, Engagement Manager on 0161 200 1545 or email: engagement@cornerhouse.org

Is there any information available to help teachers who wish to bring school groups?
